Piano Tuning Felt Wedges (4-Piece Set)

Sold Out

To achieve the desired volume, pianos are designed so that (except in the low bass region) each hammer actually strikes two or three strings at a time that are all tuned to the same frequency. Tuning these strings therefore frequently requires you to mute one or two of them, to isolate only the string that you are tuning. This is achieved with wedges such as the ones you see here.

While rubber wedges exist as well, in particular in the bass section that rubber can begin to oxidize the strings’ copper windings, causing them to discolor over time. Save yourself the hassle of polishing that delicate copper, by investing in these felt mutes, which are actually made of the same material used for the hammers’ top felt. This set includes four wedge sizes to be used across the different frequency regions on the piano.
